In this post, i would like to translate a few poems written by my grandfather. Poems are taken from two of his children’s books Rainbow, and Swing. I hope You like them.
Rainbow
Seven coloured palace
seven floored palace
Who built this palace
the sun built this palace
Who lives in this palace
no one enters this palace
In the morning i saw it in the west
in the evening why is it in the east?
Seven coloured palace
seven floored palace
Quickly disappearing palace
It’s wonderful, this palace.
Moon
When i run, so does the moon
while I stand still, so does the moon
When he sees me, smiles the moon
and plays with me everyday, my moon
How long have i been waving at You moon!
come, i will give a kiss on Your forehead moon.
In return, You should give me just milk and fruits.
When i run, so does the moon
while i stand still, so does the moon
Swing
Let’s swing that way, let’s swing this way
my lovely swing, my swing
Oh what fun is it to swing forward
oh what fun is it to swing backward
if i hold on tight,
oh what fun is it to swing and dance, forward and backward,
Let’s swing that way, let’s swing this way
My lovely swing, my swing
Postbox
The Postbox, the red box
eats a lot, such a huge stomached box
eats cards, eats letters
eats all of the magazines that he gets
Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore
Kashmir or NewYork
gets everything into his stomach, that’s his work
when You open his chest, soon he will fill the whole sack
He doesn’t need an umbrella when it rains,
he doesnt need the shadow when the sun shines
he is solid and strong
day or night, he can be trusted upon
The Postbox, the red box
eats a lot, such a huge stomached box
